I think we should celebrate Garmin’s emotional maturity. After years of complaints around sensor dropout with the 530/830/1030 Edge devices, they’ve take a massive step towards healing. Kudos :P.…

Garmin Edge 530/830/1030/1030 Plus *.73 Firmware Released
Not much to it, but there is a new firmware update for the Garmin Edge 530 (9.73)/830 (9.73)/1030 (13.73)/1030 Plus (6.73) cycling computers. The only really notable thing is that it appears to fix an issue with Firstbeat stats. I don’t think I’ve run into this one personally, but it would suck to have all that data reset when the device power cycles. Nothing to do except sync the device with your…
Garmin Slides out 9.50 firmware for 530/830/1030
Guessing that this must have been an important enough issue to do a point release with nothing else. Lame… You can’t even download the release to apply it yourself… Double lame. Time to fire up the Garmin Express and bang on “sync device” for a while……
Not a huge list of changes, but nice to see the fixes and added support for Connect IQ 5. I’ve been running the BETAs leading up to it, and got the 9.30 update on Sunday, so I’m guessing most of you have it, or will get it very soon. All is good on my end. Changes made from 9.10 to 9.30: Added support for Connect IQ System 5. Changed gear battery data…
I wasn’t a fan of the changes Garmin made to the battery display for Shimano Di2 in the 9.10 release, so I’m thrilled that among some other changes, they’ve brought back the percentage display. There are builds for all the latest gen EDGE devices, 530 is linked below. Changes made from version 9.20 to 9.22: Changed gear battery data field to display percentage remaining if available, which affects Shimano Di2 single-battery systems.…
Garmin Releases 9.10 Firmware for Edge 520/530/820/830/1030/1030+
If you were lucky enough to grab the BETA binaries when they posted yesterday, you could be running 9.10 already. Otherwise, you’re stuck waiting for Garmin’s metered rollout of the 9.10 firmware update for the EDGE 530/830/1030/1030+*. I’ve been running the 9.00 BETA for as long as it’s been out, and 8.63 before that, both without issue. Actually better than “without issue” because the constant sensor drops I was seeing pre-8.63 haven’t…
Garmin Edge530 8.63 Beta Adds “Green” Threat Tone
While I don’t always love what running BETA software on my Garmin devices does to me (clearly a self-inflicted wound; although they are generally very stable), I do love the way they structure the program. It’s open to anyone, no NDAs, and they are generally pretty good about documenting what’s in the release. In this release for the EDGE530, they’ve introduced the ability to sound an all-clear (“green threat level”) tone when…
Garmin Drops A Firmware Update, And The Ball
If you have a modern Garmin Edge cycling computer you should see a firmware update available soon. As usual, rollout is measured, so you might be able to jump early with Garmin Express, or you might get stuck at the back of the line. The main problem is that they don’t seem to have paid any attention to the sensor dropout issues that have been plaguing many users (including myself) ever since…
Unfortunately, there don’t appear to be binaries available this time around, so you’ll have to wait or try to force it with Garmin Express. Changes made from 7.10 to 8.00: Course Routing – Improved course routing speed. – Added automatic course route caching. Map – Improved map visibility and contrast with new map themes. – Added a popularity layer to highlight roads that Garmin users have ridden the most. – Added directional…
Garmin Releases Wi-Fi Update for EDGE 530/830/1030 Plus
If you’re having trouble with your Garmin EDGE cycling computer connecting to Wi-Fi, it’s possible that the latest firmware update will resolve. As it’s the only change in the log for the update, should be safe to apply (or not if you’re not experiencing). Garmin has provided the update as a download, so anyone who wants it can go get it. EDGE 530/830/1030 Plus…
