I did my first organized, licensed, legit time-trial (TT) on Sunday, and it was a blast. But, it’s not really a discipline with broad appeal in the US (this is different in other countries), and I don’t understand why. I have some theories, but I think it might be better to ask why you all don’t do TT (or if you do, chime in to say that). It’s a style of riding…
Great Cycle Challenge 2022
Pretty late post on this one. Like last year, I am participating in the Great Cycle Challenge which is a fundraiser for pediatric cancer research. I’m also really bad at fundraising, so here goes… <insert jazz hands> Donate! </>…
Turkey Burner – 2022
Last year’s Turkey Burner was a highlight last year. The course was awesome, the organizer was awesome, and it was just all around feel good event. I signed up for the 2022 race, on Saturday, November 5th, a while back but forgot to get this post up pointing that out. It should be fun, and the winner takes home a frozen turkey, and last year they got some malt liquor too :).…
Garmin fēnix 7 vs fēnix 6
I impulsively bought a Garmin fēnix 7 shortly after they released the updated HRV and Training Status 2.0 features for the watch. This video walks through some of those features and tries to answer the question around whether it’s worth upgrading from the fēnix 6 to the fēnix 7.…
Wahoo KICKR V6/2022 Launches
There’s not a lot new in the V6 KICKR, but the addition of Wi-Fi is nice for those using an Apple TV (like me) because it frees up the Bluetooth connections for other things. Otherwise, I’m not really seeing anything upgrade worthy if you already have a working smart trainer configuration. But, obviously a solid contender if you’re looking for THE BEST smart trainer (or one of the best anyway) available today.…
Garmin Slides out 9.50 firmware for 530/830/1030
Guessing that this must have been an important enough issue to do a point release with nothing else. Lame… You can’t even download the release to apply it yourself… Double lame. Time to fire up the Garmin Express and bang on “sync device” for a while……
Snaggy Ridge 105
I will be heading back to Tipton, IA for the Snaggy Ridge 105 gravel race in a few weeks. I was unprepared for the experience last year, but in my defense it was my first gravel race, ever. Not sure I’ve learned enough, or am fit enough, to be more than an “also-ran”, but I couldn’t say “no” to the incredible benchmark that doing it again, a year on, will be. ATM,…
Garmin Gravel Worlds 150 – 2022 Recap
Gravel Worlds is the largest organized event I’ve ever participated in, and the longest hardest race I’ve ever done. Race didn’t go to plan, but it was a fantastic experience that I hope to do again some day. Intro: 00:05 An Item of Feedback: 01:15 Race Start: 02:00 Thoughts on Aerobars: 03:40 Mistakes Were Made: 04:52 More Feedback: 06:40 Making Lemonade: 07:47 Grabbing the Takeaway(s): 09:07 Celebrate Good Times: 11:39 Measuring the…
Garmin August 2022 Smartwatch/Cycling Computer Update
Garmin is claiming that they released all the HRV, SATIQ, Training 2.0 stuffs for the fēnix 7, epix, Instinct 2, Forerunner 945 LTE and Edge 1040/1040 Solar. This is great news for the folks who want the goods, but aren’t comfortable running the BETAs. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to pull down the release build either directly or with Garmin Express. But, I’m not complaining too loudly, it might just be because…
Hambini’s Wheel Buyer’s Guide
Hambini is a great source of information for all things aerodynamic, and many things engineering. This guide is actually more educational seminar than guide, and I don’t mean that in a bad way at all. It is a fantastic resource for better understanding what to look for in a wheel when you go shopping.…
