Lots of change here, but the biggest is probably the addition of “Morning Report”. This is a feature found on the 255/955, that was promised for the fēnix 7, but hasn’t made it over until now. Although, it’s just the foundational elements on the watch so far. You can only turn it on/off, with no option to mess about with the settings. This not me complaining though, because Alpha software is by…

Wahoo Launches Elemnt Roam 2022 (V2) Cycling Computer
As stupid as it might sound, the change to USB-C for data and charging is the most interesting thing about the new Roam for me. Yeah, more better GPS is great, but most of the time when GPS goes wonky, it’s a silent failure. Where having to pack a separate set of cables, or clutter the charging blocks with antiquated connectors, juts to charge my bike computer is an ongoing failure. But…
Zwift Releases their iOS UX Dumpster Fire to Apple TV
I have to wonder what the product managers at Zwift were thinking when they OK’d releasing the hot mess that is Zwift on iOS to the Apple TV. While it’s usable, barely, on an iPad it is not on the Apple TV. I really hope this was an accident, because wow……
I expected this to be marketing BS, but it was fairly sensible…
There are a few interesting takeaways from this Rene Herse article on the aerodynamics of gravel bikes/riding. If you just want the TLDR; body position is where it’s at (duh). I did enjoy that they corroborated my assertion that aero gravel wheels aren’t a great idea :). But I would like to see some independent corroboration of the claim that a handlebar bag is more aerodynamic. They claim a small gain, probably…
Wahoo KICKR V6/2022 Launches
There’s not a lot new in the V6 KICKR, but the addition of Wi-Fi is nice for those using an Apple TV (like me) because it frees up the Bluetooth connections for other things. Otherwise, I’m not really seeing anything upgrade worthy if you already have a working smart trainer configuration. But, obviously a solid contender if you’re looking for THE BEST smart trainer (or one of the best anyway) available today.…
Garmin Slides out 9.50 firmware for 530/830/1030
Guessing that this must have been an important enough issue to do a point release with nothing else. Lame… You can’t even download the release to apply it yourself… Double lame. Time to fire up the Garmin Express and bang on “sync device” for a while……
Garmin August 2022 Smartwatch/Cycling Computer Update
Garmin is claiming that they released all the HRV, SATIQ, Training 2.0 stuffs for the fēnix 7, epix, Instinct 2, Forerunner 945 LTE and Edge 1040/1040 Solar. This is great news for the folks who want the goods, but aren’t comfortable running the BETAs. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to pull down the release build either directly or with Garmin Express. But, I’m not complaining too loudly, it might just be because…
Hambini’s Wheel Buyer’s Guide
Hambini is a great source of information for all things aerodynamic, and many things engineering. This guide is actually more educational seminar than guide, and I don’t mean that in a bad way at all. It is a fantastic resource for better understanding what to look for in a wheel when you go shopping.…
OMG! Garmin fēnix 7 9.22 change log is MASSIVE!
NGL, my fēnix 7 was feeling a little left out by all the fēnix 6 love the last few days… So it’s good to know that Garmin can hold both devices close to their collective heart when it comes to the adding and fixing goodness. I’m especially happy to see better surfacing of HRV data, but also given some of the instability I experienced with 9.15, it’s great to see the long…
Even more HRV love for the fēnix 6
Seems like only yesterday that Garmin pushed out a huge step forward in the HRV tracking game for the fēnix 6, but no, it was actually two days ago 🤯. The glaring issue with that update, not that I am complaining in any way, was that they didn’t include the HRV glance/widget. 22.76 fixes that; so now you can see your HRV numbers from the night before. Awesome sauce! Added HRV Status…
