Lots of good stuff to be had from the $600 “Standard” and $750 Solar Edge 1040, with the main different between the two being a solar panel (duh) and the amount of device storage. DC Rainmaker saw some fairly impressive charging numbers from the solar, so my gut says if you have $600 to blow on this big guy, and you like not charging your bike computer from the grid, the $150…

Castelli Men’s Free Protect Race Bib Shorts : Do They Prevent Road Rash?
I bought these Free Protect Race bib shorts specifically for gravel riding after the last… er.. actually time before the last time I crashed… Fugh… rubber side down, rubber side down, rubber……
Antibiotics May Impact Endurance Athletes
Anecdotally, I have absolutely noticed a decline in motivation and performance after a course of antibiotics. Although, in each of these cases there has also been a reason why I was taking the antibiotics. Usually because I crashed my bike and needed them to prevent or fight off an infection. For that reason, I’ve never really thought about the potential that antibiotics were exacerbating the problem – until last night when I…
Don’t be a dick, Shimano. Oh, too late…
I’ve generally had a very positive view of Shimano. For the most part, the kit just works. What’s not to like about that? Well, part of how it just works, won’t anymore because they decided to cut Hammerhead out of their Di2 licensing. Why? Because SRAM bought Hammerhead… Yep, Shimano is screwing every one of their Di2 customers that also has a Hammerhead bike computer. WTF?…
Bell Z20 Aero MIPS Bicycle Helmet
Cool, comfortable, cost effective, and highly rated by Virginia Tech. There is very little not to like about the Bell Z20 Aero MIPS bicycle helmet…
News of the RCT715 leaked a couple days ago, and now it’s here. Unfortunatley, DCRs review isn’t glowing. “Dumpster fire” might have been used, multiple times……
Garmin Varia RCT715 – Camera + Radar – Leaks
First off. YES PLEASE! This is a no brainer, and I’m glad that Garmin has [allegedly] finally brought something to market. Specs are a bit thin on the ground (Reddit says $400 and 5 hours of battery life), but if those numbers are true and it’s 4K that’s not terrible; obviously more battery life would be preferred, but hey there’s only so much you can do with one built-in battery. Reddit…

Zwift Pauses Their Ride
So remember how Zwift was working on their own hardware? Well, that’s not happening anymore. They’ve announced layoffs and a pause to the IRL Tron bike project. Bummer… Apparently the same slowdown that hit Wahoo is also impacting them. Probably bit of world returning to outside riding and general economic uncertainty. Zwift is calling this a “pause” rather than a halt, meaning however unlikely it seems, Zwift hasn’t ruled out one day…
Garmin fēnix 6 – Firmware 21.00
Garmin changed the BETA process for 21.00, and I happily opted in. No major issues to report, but I have been having an ongoing problem with the Training Effect (TE) displayed on the initial activity report since 20.86. Where it shows the TE from the previous activity (or nothing if I rebooted b/w activities) on the first screen, but the correct one when digging into the details (see below). They are claiming…
